For example, not all older Asian elders live in poverty, have limited education, are female, are spouseless, or are disabled. Similarly, there is substantial variability across different minority groups in their education level, economic well-being, health status, and life expectancy. This means that you cannot infer the characteristics of one minority group to another, or the characteristics of some members of a given group to all members of that group. The writings of Fernando Torres-Gil demonstrate, for example, that treating Hispanics as a monolithic group obscures major differences in the health, education, and poverty status of Cubans, Puerto Ricans, and Mexican Americans.
